About
From the deepest darkest forests of Westrogothia, the sounds of Erik XVI are full of mystery and adventure. Dense atmospheres and otherworldly timbres reverberate over chugging, insistent drums while haunting melodies brood in the distance. Intensely electronic, it’s widescreen techno for the 21st century which conjures up images of both a distant past and a dystopian future.
Growing up in Sweden in the 1980s, echoes of the electronic music of that decade will always find their way into Erik’s music, Kraftwerk being a constant reference point and an endless source of inspiration. On top of this foundation, a love of classic house and techno – from the primitive jack trax of Chicago to the pristine soundscapes of Drexciya via the deep throb of Basic Channel through to Legowelt’s ingenious reimaginings of it all – is very much in evidence. To complete the sound, add some growling distortion, astrophysical drones, disembodied vocoders and heavenly chord progressions. The sound of XVI.
